Step Pyramid of Djoser
The Step Pyramid of Djoser is the oldest known pyramid in Egypt and the earliest colossal stone building in history. Built during the 27th century BCE for Pharaoh Djoser by his architect Imhotep, this iconic structure marks a pivotal moment in ancient Egyptian architecture. Located in the Saqqara Necropolis, the pyramid was originally designed as a traditional mastaba but evolved into a six-tiered structure rising to a height of 62 meters. The surrounding complex includes ceremonial courtyards, temples, and shrines, all enclosed by a massive limestone wall. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a testament to ancient innovation.
